Zoo Sketch April 2014

One day I will tire of spending the day drawing at the zoo.  But it is not this day. And probably not for many days. Or ever.  Whatever, have some sketches.

This lovely female Orangutan really enjoyed watching us draw her. In fact, when we got there, she was in the back corner of her exhibit until we showed her a sketchbook and she came right over to watch:

Babies at the zoo!

Babies at the zoo!!!  I had a special time at the Oregon Zoo yesterday with my sketchbook.  The baby otter was out with mom, playing in a freshly dropped pile of snow and getting swim lessons. After was a wrestle fest in the den to get dry and warm. 

Another few animals caught my attention between that and when I reached the lion cubs.  Then I spent the rest of my time drawing with the cubs!

I hardly did the cuteness justice.  Drawing live lion cubs playing in the rain (they were caked with mud, by the way) is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Thank you Oregon Zoo!

It was a lovely day of zoo sketching with Drink & Draw in Portland! We lucked out on the weather and we got some great posers. The black bears were playing "king of the snowpile", the elephants young and old were giving us a good show, and at least a couple of us saw the lion cubs for JUST a moment!

I sure love drawing the animals at the zoo.  Even the homo sapiens sometimes.

Another zoo day with ASIFA Portland!

We had an awesome group of animation artists partake in another ASIFA Portland zoo day (that I organized cuz--  I LOVE this kind of thing).  What a blast, and so inspiring to hang out with like-minded drawers.  Yay!
